Don’t buy a car without knowing who holds the title

From The Morning Call, “Chris Chupella of Hanover Township, Northampton County, recently struggled to get the title to a used vehicle he bought because, unknown to him, it wasn’t held by the dealership where he bought the car but by an out-of-state financing firm.

The dealership, Singh Auto World in Lower Nazareth Township, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last month, about two weeks after Chupella bought the car. Chupella said that instead of getting the title in about two weeks as he’d been told, he got a surprise phone call from the financing firm, Auto Use, telling him he wouldn’t be getting it.

Chupella said a representative from Auto Use, which is in Massachusetts, called to explain that it held the title to his vehicle and would not release it because Singh Auto World still owed money on the car.”
